Deep crimson leather with a matte, slightly weathered finish covers the upper. The color has some natural variation and darker mottling across the surface. The toe is rounded and the heel is low and blocky, giving a sturdy profile.
Black laces run through metal eyelets on the vamp. A wide leather strap wraps around the ankle, secured with a metal buckle and decorated with a row of black dome studs. More studs are scattered across the shaft. The collar folds down in an irregular, almost petal-like shape that stands up at the back.
The sole is black rubber with a deep lug tread pattern. A side zipper runs up the inner ankle for easy entry. The lining appears dark, visible at the top opening.
98 has a worn-in, rugged look. The leather shows some creasing at the flex points and the surface has a distressed quality throughout, which seems intentional to the design.
