The Frye Melissa boots are built in a two-tone riding style, with black leather forming the tall shaft and a contrasting cognac brown panel at the top. The brown section carries an ornamental cutout design at the center front, with scrollwork details that give it a decorative look. Just below this sits a leather tab with a metal D-ring attached.
The shaft is tall and straight, made from smooth black leather that shows natural creasing and wear across the surface. The toe is rounded and the heel is a low block style. The leather has a slight sheen to it, with some scuffing and darker marks visible along the shaft and toe box. The brown top section shows more pronounced wear and color variation, with the leather looking softer and more broken in than the black.
The boots close with a full-length zipper along the inner side. Both the black and brown leathers have aged differently, giving the boots a worn-in character.
